The Georgia prosecutor who took over the alleged 2020 election interference case after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was disqualified said Wednesday he’s dropping the criminal charges against President Donald Trump and his co-defendants.
The prosecutor who is ending the case is Pete Skandalakis, according to NBC News.
Skandalakis ended up assigning this case to himself as other prosecutors “declined the appointment.”
Willis’ case against Trump fell apart after it was revealed that she had hired Nathan Wade, a person with whom she had a relationship, as the special prosecutor in the case. Wade ended up resigning from the case after a judge told him to leave. Wade received $653,881 for his work on the case.
Steve Sadlow, Trump’s defense attorney in the Georgia case, said on X that “the political persecution of President Trump by disqualified DA Fani Willis is finally over. This case should never have been brought. A fair and impartial prosecutor has put an end to this lawfare.”
